The Entertainment that is online gambling
Many that gamble will remember waking up on a Saturday morning, having an early breakfast and nipping down to the bookies to catch the early prices. It was almost like going to Church on a Sunday, it was a religion. But it is not over and the reason I speak in the past tense is because as times change and more and more people get hooked up onto the internet, one sees less and less walking in the bookmakers direction 10am on Saturday mornings.
The introduction of the internet was slow to catch on at first but has increased ever so sharply in the last five years. Many still visit the bookmakers, particularly those from the slightly older generations that not only use the outlets for betting but as a social opportunity to sip coffee, eat biscuits and meet with their friends.
There will always be room for bookmakers on the high street, you could almost say it is ethnic England and long may it be so, but one does have certain concerns as bookmakers continue to stay open later to catch events from South Africa and the United States.
Betting online means there are no closing times, you can bet as much and as often as you please without the need to be kicked out a few hours before midnight. Those with satellite television can even catch most events on the box whther its horse racing, the dogs or even that one where they go around on motorbikes with no breaks!
Online casinos and online poker are also taking part as they know that if there is no racing on, they can cash in with games such as roulette, blackjack and the flashy slot machines. Poker has received a rapturous amount of players over the decade and remains a game that many can play in between working hours be it a free roll or for a low buy in of a few pence.
Regardless of what can be offered by online bookmakers, online casinos and poker rooms there will always be a healthy percentage that still wish to gamble offline and may that continue long into the future!
